While many love the cozy vibe, some may find the limited seating capacity a drawback, especially during peak hours. Others note the absence of an expansive dining area means it can get crowded quickly. Occasionally, diners mention a need to carefully navigate through the menu as certain dishes like the smoked fish require meticulous eating to avoid fish bones. Additionally, because takeaway is the primary focus, some patrons wish for a more extensive dining experience, as they feel certain dishes shine when enjoyed fresh on-site.
Ordered takeaway and brought them home- took about 30 mins, but the food was still really tasty. It would be even better eaten in. Love the smaller portions at affordable prices- perfect for trying a variety of dishes, like tapas. Denfintly going back again and would recommend to everyone Must try: pork ribs in black Vinegar sauce Tofu with crab meat Chicken in rice wine sauce
Got some dishes as takeaway across the whole menu to try. They were all very tasty! 😋 The standouts are Aspic pork, fried fish in sweet soy sauce and to my surprise the vegetable with rice. They really reminded me of the authentic Shanghai cuisine I've tried in HK. Can't wait to try other delights from the menu! 🤤
There is a real Dan Dan noodles and very good quality.
Wong Ma Shanghai, a family - run restaurant in the City Centre of Warrington, it is run by a Hong Konger couple. The main business is takeaways that it does not need a spacious dining hall whereas the restaurant can only accommodate about 10 customers. The husband is the chef who is very busy cooking in the open kitchen. His wife is the helper to take orders. Small is a beauty as the chef cooks quite near next to your table and can enjoy the immediately cooked food that handover to you over the kitchen bench. Ventilation is well enough that the cooking fumes will not be overwhelmed in the entire restaurant. Food quality is decent at a reasonable price. The signature cuisine is the Stir-fired Shanghai Noodle as well as the Soup Dumplings(Xiao Long Bao). The smoked fish is one of the traditional Shanghainese dishes that gourmets love to order. But, here in the Wong Ma,it needs a good picking out of fish bones to prevent the hard bones to be stuck in the throat of customers. The most goodness of this restaurant is that of hot foods immediately made before you over am open kitchen.
The chef puts heart into cooking tasty Shanghai food,it feels like home. It’s comfortable and clean inside and the prices are fair!
